Life is built through perspective. You see things the way you view them. For example, you can put two different individuals in the same exact room with the same objects, colors and temperatures, but each person will get a different experience within that environment. For starters, not everyone likes the same colors. A blue painted room may bring one person peace and a feeling of calmness and the other may feel down and depressed because each person has a different perspective on the color blue. The temperature of the room may feel less comfortable than the other person which may not give that person a pleasant experience being in that room.
Life is viewed through our thoughts, past experiences, emotions, subconscious, interests and state of mind. So when we look in the mirror and see our age taking a toll on us, we believe we are getting old. Yes that may be true our age increases due to the number of years spent on this earth and the changes in our body, but what really does getting old mean? Our perspective on aging is made up through commercials, stories, hearing our grandmother complain of age, and through society. Society creates our perception on aging. We believe we are getting "old" and our brains start to believe on what we think is coming next. Before you know it you feel like you can do less then you use to. Your hips no longer allow you to dance to the rhythm of the music. Your back doesn't allow you to take those long beautiful walks at the park anymore. Your strength wont allow you to play with your grandchildren like you've once use to.
Maybe some part of this is true, but a lot of your perspective plays a huge part in these in-capabilities. Yes, maybe your hips may not be able to move like they once used to, but there is other ways to dance and enjoy music, clapping your hands and stomping your feet. Maybe our backs may not allow us to take long walks anymore, but mental strength can allow us to take shorter walks. After all, no walks at all will never help your back anyway. Maybe, just maybe!...we need to change our perspective on aging so that each time we look at our reflection in the mirror we will no longer rob ourselves of age or independence. After all we're alive enough to be alive and to be able to even see our own reflection.
One thing age should never change is our perspective when it comes to aging and independence. A more positive perspective on aging can age us in a different way! Let's start changing the perspective on aging so that people can no longer feel discouraged of aging. After all it's a part of life and it's a blessing to be able to experience that because unfortunately a lot are not able to.
